Transforming plastic into opportunity in Bamako, Mali

This initiative supports vulnerable women and young people in Bamako by transforming plastic waste into economic opportunities. By combining recycling innovation, technical training, and environmental action, the project promotes decent jobs, higher incomes, and a cleaner, healthier city.

Our objective

To improve employment and income opportunities for vulnerable women and young people through plastic recycling and environmental protection initiatives.

The goal is to turn waste into opportunity, supporting local recycler ECOBUILD MALI in order to create sustainable livelihoods while reducing pollution and improving public spaces.

A truly innovative collaboration model, ready to grow

The initial investment in this pilot initiative laid the foundation for scaling the model and amplifying its impact. Building on the strength and results of the pilot, Ayuda en Acción and IMG Group jointly submitted a consortium proposal to the Innovation Grant of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID), with the objective of expanding the initiative to the next phase.

This initiative represents a new way of contribting to development, where business expertise drives social impact.

  • Private sector knowledge applied to development cooperation - IMG Group contributes hands-on expertise from the recycling industry, helping translate circular economy principles into practical solutions on the ground.
  • Development partners driving inclusion and community empowerment - Organisations such as Ayuda en Acción bring deep experience in social inclusion, capacity building, and community-led development.
  • A shared vision and joint implementation - Partners work together with one common goal: to leave no one behind in the transition to a circular economy.

Together, this cross-sector collaboration delivers economic opportunity, environmental progress, and social transformation.
